In 2002, Chris Deckard developed and curated In Spite Of Sustenance, an arts event coupling food and music. He first compiled a collection of recordings by local musicians and assigned a single track to several different chefs in town. Those chefs listened to the track and created a course of a meal inspired by it. They hosted the musicians in their kitchens to enjoy the food they created and then create a brand new piece of music based on that. At the end of the process, there was a gallery show where those new works were broadcast as the audience witnessed regional food critics eating each course. There were also hors d'oeuvre portions being served to the audience and everyone received a CD of the recordings packaged with the various recipes to take home. I'd misplaced my copy of the CD and all-but forgotten the music I did for it, but a friend recently found the CD and let me borrow it so I could humbly share my contributions, though I cringed a bit to hear them after at least ten years. Besides the course-inspired track, I also did one that was supposed to be hidden before the beginning of the compilation (you'd have to scan backwards from track one to negative ten minutes to hear it), but Chris' CD authoring software didn't like that idea, so it was instead the first track. These are the two pieces I made for the compilation.
